Rising scrap metal prices over the past decade have helped to dramatically reduce the number of cars being set on fire by vandals on UK streets, according to new figures.
Newly released figures from the London Fire Brigade indicate a huge drop in the number of car fires the service has been called out to in the last ten years. Last year, the service attended 81 deliberate car fires each week, compared to a massive 644 per week in 2003/04.
One of the main reasons for this dramatic decline is the steady rise of scrap metal prices over the past decade, making scrap cars much more valuable due to their high metal content.
