Scrap Car Network is the nation’s biggest partnership of scrap car dealers. That means that when you choose us, you can count on hassle-free collection of your scrap car right from your driveway, no matter where you are in the UK. We’re partnered with hundreds of Authorised Treatment Facilities all over the country, so wherever you live we’ll have a trusted collection partner who’s never too far away.
Our collection service is quick and easy to arrange, and saves you the headache of how to get your car to a scrap yard - a task which can be especially tricky if the car no longer has any tax, insurance or MOT. Just leave it to us to sort out for you - it’s all part of the service!
Get QuoteOur scrap car collection service is split up into four simple steps:
You can get an online valuation of your car in as little as 10 seconds - just type your car reg and postcode into the fields on our homepage, and we’ll show you how much your car is worth. Once you click accept, we’ll be in touch as soon as we can to organise the next step.
We’ll give you a call to arrange a date and time for collection that’s suited to you and your schedule. The majority of our customers choose to have their car collected from their driveway at home, but if you can’t get the time off work (we’ve all been there!), we can also pick it up from your place of employment, too.
When we’ve finalised the details with you, one of our trusted collection partners will arrive at the agreed time and date to collect your car. You don’t even need to be there in person - but you do need to make sure that someone’s there on your behalf. Either way, our driver will ask to see photographic ID as a security measure, which is when you can also hand them any official paperwork associated with the car (more detail on that in just a second).
As soon as your scrap car is loaded up on the collection vehicle, we’ll finalise your payment on the same day, so you’re never waiting too long for the cash to hit your account. (We do all our payments by bank transfer - since 2013 it’s been illegal to give you actual cash for your car.) We’ll also send you your Certificate of Destruction, as legal proof we’re responsibly recycling your vehicle.
Get QuoteTo be honest, once you’ve booked a collection your only main job is to make sure we’ve got easy access to your car. That means it should be out on your driveway (if you’ve got one) so that we can simply lift it directly onto our collection vehicle. Ideally, we don’t want to hang around waiting for it to be retrieved from a locked garage or behind another car!
Get QuoteOur only key requirement is that you need to be able to prove your identity when we come to pick up your car. Beyond that, any official paperwork that you can provide us is always helpful, as it can really speed up the process.
Proof of identity is the only item on the list that is absolutely essential, as we’re legally required to prove your identity before we collect your car, according to the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. One of the key goals of the act is to establish a firmer paper trail when cars get scrapped, to help cut down on vehicle crime and fraud. Amongst other things, this makes it harder for unscrupulous dealers to quickly ‘fix up’ end-of-life vehicles and sell them on to unsuspecting buyers.
A normal photocard driving licence will do just fine, but if you don’t have one of those you can see our FAQs section for a full list of accepted forms of ID.
These are two different names for the same thing: your Vehicle Registration Document. Despite the name, it’s a piece of paper, not an actual book. Basically, it shows who is the registered keeper of the car. If you’ve lost your V5 or log book (which is easy enough to do), then don’t worry too much. We can scrap your car without it, but it’s best to let us know in advance not to expect one.
It’s not uncommon to declare your car as off the road before you scrap it. If you’ve done the same, you’ll have been sent a Statutory Off Road Notice. It’s proof of this formal declaration to the DVLA, and frees you from paying tax or insurance on the car. Your SORN is automatically cancelled when you scrap your car, so giving the document to us means that we can handle this bit for you.
Again, we don’t need these to collect your car, but it makes life easier for us if you’ve got them. For starters, it makes it far easier to access the vehicle (and if it’s still in working condition, move it around on-site), and it takes the keys themselves off your hands, too.
